Sort of an odd headline, but I love this Tom Verducci piece criticizing the modern approach to hitting. As someone who likes to watch baseball, I’m glad to see numbers showing this passive-aggressive approach isn’t working, too. Because whether it works or not, it has never been aesthetically pleasing or entertaining. It also brings to mind a comment I heard from Harold Reynolds last year - I believe it was on the Dan Patrick Show, but I’m not certain - regarding his impression of the current approach hitters generally take. In short, he doesn’t get it. “When I was facing Nolan Ryan, I never thought, ‘Boy, I can’t wait until he gets two strikes on me,’” he said.
